Finding calm in the IVF Storm

Last week marked World IVF Day—a moment to honour the science that has helped so many grow their families, but also to reflect on the emotional journey that comes with it.

In my work as an acupuncturist supporting people through IVF, I see just how much this process asks of someone—not just physically, but emotionally too. It’s rarely a straight line. In recent weeks alone, I’ve sat with clients after the heartbreak of cancelled cycles, offered support through the grief of miscarriage, and celebrated the beautiful arrival of a long-awaited baby.

It’s a privilege to walk beside people in all of these moments.

Acupuncture offers more than just physical support during IVF. It can support the process by improving blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, balancing hormones, regulating the menstrual cycle, reducing medication side effects, calming the nervous system, and creating a more receptive environment for implantation. But just as importantly, it creates space for emotional release—something that’s so often missing on the fertility journey.

My treatment room becomes a quiet place to talk, to process, to rest. And I see how much that matters.

What I love most is witnessing the shift: the moment someone feels even a little lighter, less alone, more grounded. Especially when everything around them feels uncertain or overwhelming.

So in honour of World IVF Day, I want to acknowledge the strength it takes to go through this journey.

Warm wishes,

Annette

I recently used the services of an IVF specialist clinic in London and felt genuinely supported throughout the process. The team took time to explain everything in simple terms.
